The price of garden urbans
Aug. 7, 2023

It is clear that one of the most important factors that raises the most doubts before renting an urban orchard is the price of urban gardens.
From Huerto360 we want to help you to find out how much it can mean for your pocket to be able to enjoy this plot to supply your own vegetables.
First of all, there is a more or less generalised ratio that the rent for an urban garden is around 1 €/m2 per month, but first we have to ask ourselves another question.

What size plot will I need for my needs?
In professional urban gardens you can find various sizes of plots that can supply from a retired couple with 25m2 to a restaurant, for example, which may need close to 200m2.
The average plot sizes of urban garden plots start from and can be grouped into small plots of 25m2, average parcels of 40 or 50m2, larger plots 70m2 to 100m2 and the prices of these groups of plots usually range from around 25€, 40€ and 50€ up to over 100€. respectively for each group.
As always from Huerto360 we give you a guideline, as the price can be influenced by other factors such as added services like individual sheds, parking, toilets, changing rooms, composting areas, shop, recreation areas or use of tools.
We could say that the most common plot size of 50m2 is at an average price of €42 per month.
Another of the most common questions is whether the water supply is included in the price of renting the garden: there are places that do and other places that don't, in some they set an average of around €5 per month and in others they have their own individual meter where we can even plan irrigation by zones.
The best thing to do is to contact Huerto360 with your nearest allotment and apart from informing you of the price, you can see all the services they have and if they have plots available, as many of them have waiting lists due to the high demand.
Then there are also community or public gardens within towns or cities, according to a study carried out by Gerardo Ballesteros at the III Congreso Estatal de Huertos Ecológicos Urbanos y Periurbanos their prices range from 0 to 30€/month. The most common being €5 per month, as we have been able to extract from their report.
But these are gardens provided by the municipalities and are usually full from one year to the next.
As you can see, the cost of a rented garden is a fairly low investment considering all that your garden will supply you with, as the average cost of fruit and vegetables for a family of 4 people can be around 200€ per month, but this will be a topic for another post.
However, we always like to point out that when you enjoy your garden, the price is something that will take a back seat to all the benefits that it will bring to your life from this moment on.
