Today we meet "Huertos Rústicos"

Here we have a young man with a lot of strength and a clear objective. At the age of 21 he started the adventure of creating his own urban garden near Malaga and now at the age of 26, after 5 years and with a lot of effort and determination, he has achieved it.
Huertos Rústicos is one of the first rental garden urbans that joined Gardenphy and we are particularly fond of it.
Today we took some of Juan's time to get to know Huertos Rústicos better:

How did this idea of getting started in horticulture with allotments for rent come about?
Well, it just so happened that I was studying for a technical degree in agricultural production and the idea came up, as there was a demand for allotments for rent and very little supply. We started the project with 26 plots in the first year and now we are at 92 plots.
Did you have any knowledge of horticulture, to start with the rental gardens?
Well, my family had a small plot of dry land, but I didn't know much about growing vegetables, but with the training I had and my curiosity I progressed, because the garden is grateful and every time it pushes you to learn more.
What do market gardeners value most?
Well, it's funny, but sometimes coming to tend your garden or pick your vegetables is just an excuse. This place is a haven of tranquillity and a charge batteries for people, spend a pleasant time with their children, their parents or friends and you go home again.
Furthermore, we are 15 minutes from Malaga, very close to Benalmadena.
Perhaps many future gardeners are hesitating to enter the world of vegetable gardening because they have no idea.
Of course, when the market gardeners rent their garden they have the land prepared and the drip system, they just have to come with their seedlings. We also provide you with a PDF planting guide for the two main seasons of spring and autumn.
The other gardeners, who have been with us for three or five years from the beginning, also pass on all their knowledge of the vegetable garden, like a family.
Do you think people are looking for profitability in the orchard, now that the price of vegetables has skyrocketed?
Well, maybe at first, but I would say that it is not the best thing, as I said before, you get a lot of positive things for life from here: peace, communication, fun, self-improvement, perseverance... All this is very important to transmit to the children as well.
What nationalities of gardeners are there in Huertos Rústicos?
There are people from all over South America: Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela... And then Belgians and Portuguese. The most curious thing is that they also bring us the different ways of caring for the garden from other parts of the world and it is very enriching.
What would you say to that future market gardener who is about to contact you?
If you try it, if you come, you will be able to verify everything that has been said before. A vegetable garden changes your life for the better, from the inside;)
